Why do some Tri-Cities homes get two water bills?

Irrigation districts such as the Kennewick Irrigation District (KID) deliver untreated, non-potable water, drawn from the Yakima River, for landscaping and lawns only. It is never safe to drink or use for recreation.

If your property is inside the district’s boundary, you’ll get a separate KID assessment in addition to your city water/sewer bill. That assessment is a flat charge to maintain the irrigation system, not a usage-based fee, and watering schedules can be restricted during drought years.
