Ginkgo Petrified Forest and Wanapum

A National Natural Landmark at Vantage where petrified logs still lie where they were buried, plus a riverfront campground and swim area at Wanapum just down the road.

What to do

  • Walk the 1.25-mile Trees of Stone Interpretive Trail past petrified logs in their original setting (about 3 miles of trail in all).
  • Stop at the interpretive center overlooking the Columbia.
  • Camp, swim or launch a boat at Wanapum Recreation Area.

Getting there

Know before you go

  • A Discover Pass is required.
  • Vehicle access to the Recreation Drive trail requires online registration.
  • Summer hours run 6:30 a.m. to dusk.
  • Fire restrictions change through the season; check the park alerts.
