Steptoe Butte State Park

A 3,612-foot butte you can drive to the top of, with views across the rolling Palouse wheat fields. Photographers come at sunrise and sunset.

What to do

  • Drive the spiral road to the summit for 360-degree views of the Palouse.
  • Bring a long lens in late spring and early summer, when the fields are greenest.
  • Picnic at the base.

Getting there

Know before you go

  • Day use only, 8 a.m. to dusk. Discover Pass required.
  • As of Sept. 2026, the north 3 miles of Hume Road toward Oaksdale are closed; reach the park from the south.
