Wallula Gap and Twin Sisters

Two basalt pillars on a bluff above the Columbia at Wallula Gap, the narrow pass the Ice Age floods squeezed through. It is the closest real scenery stop to the Tri-Cities.

What to do

  • Walk the short, sandy path up to the Twin Sisters for views down the gap.
  • Watch for hawks and eagles riding the wind over the river.
  • Pair it with the McNary National Wildlife Refuge on the way home.

Getting there

Know before you go

  • There are no restrooms, water or shade.
  • Wind is constant and can be strong. Hold on to kids near the edges.
  • Watch for rattlesnakes in warm months.
  • Parking is free and no pass is needed.
